Preparing food for, and feeding, nearly 100 people every Friday evening requires a lot of volunteer help!  And for The Salvation Army's Booth's Café, that help recently came from the Martin County Supervisor of Elections Office.  Vicki Davis and her staff came to help The Salvation Army on Friday, July 6, 2012 . Ms. Davis also currently serves as volunteer treasurer of The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary.

"From helping to prepare the pasta salad to dishing out the hamburgers and baked beans - and manning the dessert and coffee stations - Ms. Davis' employees really pitched in to make our weekly feeding program run smoothly," said Lt. Andrea Hoover, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army of Martin County.  "Many individuals and families come to us each Friday night for a hot meal," she added.  "We see a variety of ages and ethnicities come through our doors, from senior citizens to parents with small children."

Named for the founder of The Salvation Army, William Booth, the Martin County Booth's Café began serving the hungry about fifteen years ago and works in conjunction with other local churches.  "There is a location every night of the week that provides meals to the hungry," Lt. Hoover explained.  "We feel very blessed that we can offer this valuable service to our community."

Lt. Hoover noted that much of the food for Booth's Café is donated from our local community partners, including Publix and BJ's Wholesale and Erneston Produce.  "We truly rely on these donations as well as our volunteers to make this program a success," she said.
