(Stuart, FL) August 24, 2012 – As Tropical Storm Isaac leaves the Treasure Coast, many are reminded how unpredictable a summer storm can be. Many homes and neighborhoods on the Treasure Coast were flooded and several destroyed during a related tornado. Lt. Scott Hoover, Corps Officer for the Salvation Army of Martin County said, “The Salvation Army of Martin County is prepared to assist storm victims with support to meet their immediate needs as well as aid in the recovery process. If any Martin County resident needs assistance due to Tropical Storm Isaac, they need to contact our office at 772-288-1471 for Emergency assistance."
“Our thoughts and prayers now turn to our friends in the Florida Panhandle, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama coasts as they prepare for hurricane force winds and rain,” said Lt. Hoover. “Many Salvation Army Corps in Florida have already been hard at work, preparing meals and offering shelter to those who need it.” He continued that The Salvation Army is prepared to help those who will be affected today, tomorrow and later this week.
“The biggest question I am asked is ‘how can I help?’” said Lt. Scott. “At this point, we are not taking any in-kind donations. Financial assistance may be offered to those affected by this disaster by visiting our website at
www.salvationarmystuart.org or the national website at http://www.disaster.salvationarmyusa.org.
Donors may also call toll-free at 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769).
Donors may also contribute $10 via their phone bill by text* messaging the word STORM to 80888, and confirming the donation with the word, “Yes.”
Checks may be made out to The Salvation Army Disaster Relief and mailed to The Salvation Army of Martin County, P.O. Box 2475, Stuart, FL 34995. Please designate "2012 Hurricane Relief" on all checks.” Lt. Hoover further explains that clothing and used furniture are seldom required during an incident. However, he noted that these gifts are vitally important in supporting the day-to-day work of your local Salvation Army. Please consider giving these items to our local Salvation Army Family Store, located at 1860 SE Federal Highway in Stuart.
