Founded in 2000 by Mary Helen Keim and friends in Willoughby with 18 charter members; now in their 8th year they have 56 members. In these past years they have given back to the community over $500,00.00 by supporting progrms and projects of the Salvation Army of Martin County.
Their major fundraiser each year is the "Wings of Hope" Luncheon,Fashion show and Silent Auction being held this year at Willoughby Golf Club on November 16th. Last year the Luncheon raised over $55,000. Each year this fundraiser has been a sold out event with over 260 people attending.
In 2008 they allocated funds to purchase a 28 passenger bus to transport children and seniors to camps and retreats and financially supported many other projects and programs that directly improve the lives of many in our community. During the summer, boys and girls ages 8 to 12 in Martin County, praticipate in a week-long experience of fresh air, exercise, friendships and personal growth. Since 2003 the Auxiliary has funded camp for over 130 children.
Angel Tree Auxiliary volunteers each year help over 1200 needy children find excitement and joy in Christmas. Earthly Angels adopt children and purchase gifts of toys and clothing that is then sorted and distributed by our volunteers just before Christmas.
Bell Ringing by the Auxiliary volunteers at the Mall and Wal-Mart last year raised over $13,000.00. This money also goes directly to supporting the many programs of the Army.
League of Mercy vlolunteers visit 5 to 7 area nursing homes providing small gifts of the season to shut-ins at Christmas and Easter.
Auxiliary volunteers give of their time and energy to assist in the Family Store, sorting, labeling and displaying donated merchandise. The funds raised from the store go directly to help fund the necessary programs for the needy. During times of disasters, families may be issued vouchers to use in the store for clothing, furniture and necessary household goods.
