WHO/WHAT:
BlueYouth Berries, Inc., of Odessa, Fla., will host a "Pick Berries for Kids" event to benefit The Salvation Army Tampa Command's Summer Camp program. Half of all proceeds from the sale of blueberries picked at the BlueYouth farm on Saturday, April 21, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, will be used to send needy and at-risk local children to camp this summer. The Salvation Army will send hundreds of children from the Tampa Bay area for a week of fun and fellowship to Camp Keystone Heights, Fla., and dozens more to a local summer day camp, at no cost to their families.
"We are grateful to BlueYouth Berries for offering to help us raise funds to provide scholarships for summer camp during their annual blueberry harvest," said Major Dan Heard, commander for The Salvation Army of Tampa. "Each year, thousands of children across the country attend Salvation Army summer camps at no cost to their parents. Time spent at camp can be a life-changing experience for kids. It can instill feelings of self-worth, open up the world and offer these kids hope for the future."
The Salvation Army mobile canteen unit, which is used for relief efforts during disasters, will be available for tours. For more information, visit www.salvationarmytampa.org.
