Join "Operation: Gimme Shelter" to Provide Shelter to Tampa Homeless
through the Holiday Season
The Tampa Police Department and Downtown Partnership are leading the charge
in the fight against homelessness this holiday season.
On November 27th, 2013, Chief Jane Castor, on behalf of TPD, and the
Downtown Partnership called a press conference to challenge Downtown Tampa
businesses to donate money to The Salvation Army of Hillsborough County to help
homeless have a place to stay during the holidays.
Operation: Gimme Shelter will run from November 27th through December 31st.
Every $10 donation will provide secure housing for a night, a shower, and two
meals for someone living on Tampa's streets. With the many cold nights to come,
$10 can make a real difference in a homeless person's life this holiday
The Tampa Police Department kicked off Operation: Gimme Shelter with a
$2,000 donation to a special fund within The Salvation Army specifically
designated to provide shelter for the homeless. The Tampa Downtown Partnership
is taking a lead role in the operation, contributing $1,000 and reaching out to
their membership to build more support in helping Tampa's Homeless.
The Sunset Musical Festival donated the $2,000 to TPD for this cause.
