Pick-up of donated household goods, clothing, and
furniture in the Hampton
Roads area can be arranged by calling The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation
Center. Our Salvation Army Family Stores will also accept donations that are
dropped off.
Call 1-800-95-TRUCK or 757-499-0032 to
donate clothes, furniture, and all other non-monetary items.

Regulations
It is easy to help The Salvation Army and receive the benefit of a tax
deduction for your donation:
The IRS does not require you to have a professional appraisal for donated
items which are in good used condition and are valued at $5,000.00 or less
To assist The Salvation Army and to insure you can take a deduction for all
goods donated, please weed out and discard any torn, dirty, or broken items
that are not in good used condition before you contribute them
The Salvation Army will give you a receipt suitable for tax purposes for
any items you contribute. Under IRS guidelines, clothing, furniture, and other
household items must be in good used condition or better to be deductible
The Salvation Army does not determine the value of the item you are
donating, but does have a valuation guide on this website to assist you. Some
tax software also includes data on the value of used goods for this purpose
If the Item(s) are not in good used condition or better, AND you wish to
deduct more than $500, the IRS does require a professional appraisal
You must file Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions, with the IRS if
you intend to deduct more than $500 with respect to the donation
