The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary in Tyler, Texas was formed in
1986. The Auxiliary works as an extension of The Salvation Army Advisory
Board. Its purpose is to support the work of the local Salvation Army
and to strengthen the hands of those who have dedicated their lives to
this cause. The Auxiliary functions as a fundraising and volunteer
service group for the programs of The Salvation Army. The purpose of the
Auxiliary is to raise public awareness of The Salvation Army, to
facilitate services to the needy, and to strengthen the financial base
of the local Salvation Army. Membership is open to all women in the
community. Members are encouraged to participate and support the
programs of The Salvation Army.
At over 400 members strong, The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary
(SAWA) of Tyler is certainly a force with which to be reckoned and makes
it one of the largest in the country. SAWA members are exceptional
women in the community, who by their influence or activity can further
the work of the Army. Each woman is encouraged to volunteer in one or
more programs offered by The Tyler Salvation Army or to serve on a
committee which interests them. In this way, the individual and unique
talents of each woman can be used to the fullest.
Since 1986, SAWA has been a critical part of what keeps this Army
“doing the most good” for the Tyler and Smith County communities. This
force completely and independently organizes, promotes, and runs the
Angel Tree, making the dream of a merry Christmas a reality for many
underprivileged families who would otherwise be unable to provide
Christmas gifts for their children. From organizing fundraisers to
teaching music classes, SAWA is a force of good that cannot be stopped.
Growing from a group of 22 women in 1986 to a powerhouse of over 400
members this year, this is a group every woman should consider joining.

We understand that it can be difficult to fit another activity into
your schedule, but your yearly membership donation alone helps the
Auxiliary to accomplish its purpose by helping to strengthen the
financial base of The Salvation Army.
