Salvation Army Starts Program for Homeless Vets

According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, about 33% of all homeless adults are veterans. In an effort to meet the needs of those in the Waco area, The Texas Veterans Commission recently awarded The Salvation Army of Waco a grant of $158,459 to fund a Veteran's Shelter and Housing Stability Program.
Homeless Veterans are housed at the Red Shield Men's Lodge or at Sally's House for an extended period of time while they receive job and life skill programs as well as case management services to help them move toward more stable living circumstances. In addition, the program provides homeless prevention services such as utility assistance to help veterans and their families remain in their homes.
Since its beginning in September, the program has served 58 veterans and seven veterans' family members.
