REPORT: 38% OF AMERICANS HAVE RECEIVED HELP FROM CHARITY

Report Highlights Importance of Giving Back During 59th Annual National Salvation Army Week.

West Palm Beach, FL May 16, 2012 - The American public is largely sympathetic to people in need, but drastically misunderstands the causes of poverty, according to a new report, "Perceptions of Poverty: The Salvation Army's Report to America," released today by The Salvation Army. Among other eye-opening statistics, the report showed that while 38 percent of Americans have received assistance from a charitable group in their lifetime, another 27 percent of Americans believe that laziness is a root cause of poverty. Still, an overwhelming majority continues to donate to charities to help others in need.

Kids involved in our camps are able to connect with counselors who care and who listen to them. They are able to gain confidence in themselves and make right choices. Our youth make lasting memories and a lasting change. They not only see the joy and potential in themselves but also in God.

This year we celebrate our 90th Birthday in Palm Beach County.
Thru all our good works we find,

more in Palm Beach County - offer transitional housing to those displaced -
and provide a safe haven for our youth.

The Salvation Army will be hosting a Candlelight Soiree on December 7th and we hope you will include us on your calendar and in your heart.

"DOWNTOWN IN BLOOM"

Downtown at The Gardens, Love's Flower Shop and YOU helped The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County raise funds.

This event was held March 31st thru April 1st and was a tremendous success.

Our "scene" won 1st place for "Best In Show" and was second place for votes/donation! In total this event raised $1,271. to help send local children to summer day camp.

Also important by participating in this event we were able to educate the public and share information regarding our programs and services that are offered throughout the year!

TO OUR SCENE CREATORS: Thank you so very much for all your hard work to create the scene - Tammy, Janine Teresa, Kandy, Margie Barcewicz, Jamil and Bonnie!

TO OUR VOLUNTEERS WHO MANNED THE SCENE AND PROVIDED INFORMATION: Thank you so much for all your time, effort and for being in the hot sun - Mike, Eva, Joyce, Art, Tara, Ashley and Linda!
