Meet the new Area Commanders
Terry Israel is a Major in The Salvation Army, whose last assignment was as the Corps Officer in Asheville, North Carolina.
He was born in Mobile, Alabama and is the son of Travis & Myra Israel, also officers in The Salvation Army. As such, he grew up in and around the organization.
Terry Israel is a 1973 graduate of Valdosta High School, Valdosta, Georgia. He attended Vennard College in University Park, Iowa, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Georgia College.

Major Israel began his career with The Salvation Army as a Community Relations Director in the Orlando, Florida Command. It was there that he met his wife, Donna. Upon completion of two years at The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Atlanta, Georgia, he was commissioned as Lieutenant in 1984. Together with his wife, Major Donna Israel, they have served commands in Virginia (Suffolk, Arlington, Prince William and Alexandria), Texas (Dallas and Texarkana) and North Carolina (Charlotte, Burlington and Asheville).
Terry Israel enjoys running, golf and music. His "fifteen minutes of fame" are made up of a hole in one an the 12th hole of Shady Oaks Country Club, home course of the legendary Ben Hogan. He has completed seven marathons and most recently, a three week trek to the base camp of Mount Everest.
Donna Israel was born in Cherry Point, North Carolina and is the daughter of Bob & Trudy Baker.
Donna is a 1975 graduate of Evans High School in Orlando, Florida. She attended Valencia Community College before entering The Salvation Army School for Officers Training where she was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1980. Additionally, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Ministry from Trevecca Nazarene University. Donna began her career with the Army by serving in the Oklahoma Division.
Donna Israel is often noted for her musical ability as a vocal soloist, along with her creativity in youth and outreach ministry.
The Israels have three children, Timothy, who attends Gardner-Webb University, Nathan (18) and Zachary (9). The Israels can often be found enjoying watching their sons at track meets, baseball or soccer games.
